 "Sign Here!" guestbook demonstration

The demo located here:
http://user.domaindlx.com/signhere/
It has some limitations like maximum number of messages and inability to change admin settings. There is also a banner which belongs to hosting provider, not to the guestbook. The demo is hosted by DomainDeluxe - a place, where you can get free space for your web site and this host meets all "Sign Here!" requirements.

How to incorporate the guestbook into your site

If you need the guest book to match your site design but not familiar with ASP, please contact us from the 'Purchase' section. We will do this for you for a very small fee.

Just unzip the files and upload them into any directory on your web server preserving directory structure. In most cases "Sign Here!" guestbook is ready to run now. If not, make sure that 'Show friendly HTTP error messages' option in the 'Advanced' tab of Internet Options (Internet Explorer only) is disabled. This will allow you to see the error description.

 Some common errors and workarounds:

  1. When signing the guest book:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Operation must use an updateable query.

This error indicates that the directory in which the database is located does not have sufficient permissions to allow writing to the database. Assigning Change permissions to the IUSR_machinename (where machinename is the actual computer name) will fix this problem. If you are running the server yourself, you'll need to go into Windows explorer do the following:
    • Right click the directory where the guestbook database is located
    • Choose Sharing
    • Click on the Security tab
    • Click on the Permissions button
    • Add the IUSR account
    • Assign the IUSR account Change permissions
    • Click on Ok, then OK again.
If your site is located on a remote server, you will need to contact the administrator for assistance.
  2. [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error
Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process ...

Database driver can't open database for some reason. It is possible that database file cannot be found at the specified path or have unsupported format.
You can try one of the following:
    • use gbdb97.mdb (Access 97 database)
    • use absolute file path like "c:\inetpub \wwwroot \database \gbdb.mdb" instead of Server.MapPath(...)
    • create system DSN and use it in the connection string (connection_string="DSN=MyGbDsnName;")
    • change connection string (gb.asp,line 9) to connection_string="Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & Server.MapPath("database/gbdb.mdb") & ";"
